Sleepyhead for baby4/15/2023 ![]() So how could I combat this? I researched lots of different ways parents were overcoming this with their babies and one thing that kept being mentioned was the Sleepyhead. Even in a Moses basket a baby can feel exposed as to them it’s just an open space. It makes sense then that during the first three months of a babies life they like to be close to their parent because that is ultimately where they feel safe! When it comes to sleep it’s no good for anyone if you can’t put your baby down to sleep. They have to get used to wearing clothes and nappies not to mention how frustrating it must be to need something and struggle to be able to communicate it. You have to imagine what it must be like to suddenly have all of these new sensations and sounds going on around you. This is because when a newborn baby is held they feel safe, warm and comforted which is similar to how they feel in the womb. I was interested to learn that some babies just don’t like to be put down to sleep. In preparation for Hugo, I read up on newborn babies and their sleep habits. Eventually, he grew out of it but I have to admit it was a grim old period! My husband and I would play this weird game of baby tag team where we would take it in turns passing the baby back and forth in shifts so that one of us at least could sleep. At one point, I went over 48 hours without a wink of sleep. When I had my first child Henry I would constantly ask “Why won’t he sleep?” I would do everything he needed feed him, change him, wind him, sing him fifty-five lullabies!! He would fall asleep peacefully in my arms but the moment I went to lay him down his eyes would snap open and he would be wide awake. Sleepyhead and its global sister brand DockATot merged back in November 2020. Has Sleepyhead changed its name to DockATot? Use it for playtime and resting rather than sleep Make sure the pod has a firm base and mattressĬheck regularly that your little one isn’t overheating If you’ve considered all the sleeping guidelines carefully, and want to invest in a pod, have these points on a checklist while you’re choosing a nest: There might not be any recorded cases of SIDS related to the use of pods or nests, but there are safety concerns highlighted by the Lullaby Trust related to the products featuring padded sides and soft bases. The Trust also reminds us: “While there is a British Standard for cot mattresses, there is no standard for pods or nests as a sleeping place for babies.” Sleep pods or sleep nests are becoming a popular choice for babies instead of the traditional Moses basket.īut The Lullaby Trust doesn’t advise their use for baby sleep it states: “Evidence shows that sleeping a baby on anything but a firm, flat surface, or using soft, heavy bedding, can increase the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).” This sleeping advice refers to babies under one year old. Not only do they provide a comfortable and safe environment for your baby to sleep in, they are also multi-functional allowing baby to relax and grow, including tummy time, play and changing. Make sure baby is comfortable and relaxed so they can snooze soundly with a Sleepyhead Grand and DockATot Grand.
